Horse treking in Kyrgyzstan

Hunting with the berkutchi of Central Asia almost always involves hill hunting. A good days hunting can mean about nine hours in the saddle at up to an attitude of nine to ten thousand feet.
This is strenuous work for both hunter and mount and climbing long hills need to be taken in a zig zag approach to lessen the strain.

In everyone of my trips to hunt with the berkutchi I have formed a strong bond with the mount I was allocated. As a respected guest I have been lucky to have had good horses that have been of generous spirit in accordance to my limited ability.
I have always admired their stamina which is staggering and their patience which is amazing.

They my be small horses in some eyes but they certainly have big hearts.
