Trained Sparrow Hawk in China

It is so amazing to know that this hawk will have been trapped only a month to six weeks before. Here she sits as calm as any well mannered imprint watching the world go about its business.

The Chinese man their hawks to perfection and when they are manned so well, the hawks are able to concentrate on hunting to the exclusion of all else.

This is why they are so determined when hunting in a very crowded city environment. Once they spot their target and are thrown towards it, nothing distracts them. They will fly between other bicycles over the tops of moving cars and through pedestrians, sometimes using these obstacles as cover for an extra element of surprise.
