Goshawk tailbell
The Chinese tail-bell looks and is quite ornate but sadly they usually have a poor ring. In tune with many other Chinese falconers the Manchu seem just to favour the tail-bell and not the leg bells that western falconers also use.
I was once told the reason by one Chinese falconer is because they believe that the extra noise leg-bells make when the hawk is closing in on its prey gives the quarry that extra reason for the last second evasive action to escape. I just smiled in reply.
